'When copying any
Old Master painting
I always give
acknowledgement to
the original artist,
although this is
usually self
evident. I also make
some very tiny
alteration. Perhaps
a slightly different
piece of jewellery,
or my initials on
the cover of a book.
I may move a hand a
centimetre or so, or
in the case of the
reclining Venus,
reverse the whole
painting. Other than
this any miniature
of an Old Master
painting is as exact
as I can possibly
make it. When the
original artist has
been dead for
several hundred
years I don't have
to worry about
copyright, and
because my paintings
are so small they
cannot be considered
forgeries!'
